Call Me I-Chi

Dr I-Chi Hsu, the coordinator of FLICAM and China’s largest ceramics museum and artists’ workshop in Fuping, is the lucky 77 this year!
Here are a few photos of Dr Hsu to commemorate this big birthday.

With a striped shirt, custom-made suspenders, and neatly manicured mustache… Dr Hsu is stylin’!

Tasty Light

Since I’m on maternity leave (aka, no client photoshoots), I resort to taking photos of my own family.  So if you’re sick of looking at my kids, well… sorry, but you’ll have to deal with it for another few weeks!
A couple days ago, I noticed the warm afternoon light was streaming in through [...]

Coincidence? I think not.

While lying in the comfortable (NOT!) hospital bed only a few hours after I delivered Baby Ava, I found out that my client, Lisa W., was in the same hospital and about to deliver her baby too!
She was due 1 week previous and I was due to deliver in another 2 weeks, so our due [...]

My New Little Monkey

As a photographer, I have so many “favorite” photoshoots…
Photoshoots that had the perfect light; photoshoots of shy kids who ended with giant smiles that surprised even their parents; photoshoots of people who weren’t sure that having a photographer follow them around for a couple hours was something they’d enjoy, but they loved it and do [...]

Esther & Richard – A Los Angeles Couple

Is this an engagement shoot?  Nope.
A newlywed shoot?  Nah.
Esther and Richard have been married for 9 years!  They are adorable when they are together.  There is laughter, jokes and stories… and don’t forget the oodles of sports and beer!
Look how cute they are…

Zac Part 2

I posted part 1 yesterday because I projected it would take a long time to go through the images from my out-of-town shoot.
This is so typical of me with photography… I ended up staying up late last night to finish going through all the images from Zac’s newborn shoot and worked on editing them today [...]

Newborn Zac

One of my favorite couples in the World were recently blessed with THE most amazing “gift”:  a new baby!  It makes my eyes water just thinking about how amazing Mike and Andrew’s life will change with their new addition of Baby Zac.  I know in my heart that Zac’s life will be a great one [...]

Same Place, Six Months Later

For those of you who think you need to change locations when you book your next shoot with me, think again.
Today’s lifestyle shoot with the F. Family proves you don’t need to change a thing.  And why not?
Because everything else has changed:  you, your kids, your outfits (hopefully!), and even elements at your [...]

Newborn Twin Boys – One More!

In finalizing the A. Family’s newborn gallery, I discovered a favorite that I forgot to share with you.  Here it is!
Whisper In My Ear
Twins share so much, even from the time they are babies.  I love the closeness of Gil and Greg here, so I made it a tight shot to keep the feeling warm [...]

Zach is Two

I took little Zachary’s 1 year portraits last year.  He was one of the most smiley, happy babies I had ever met!
(Click here to see what Zach looked like last year!)
He has grown so much since last year that I almost didn’t recognize him when he came to the door… almost.
He is still very smiley [...]

How to Shoot a Large Group

Today’s Photoshoot Objective:  Take photos of a 12-person group on-location in January.
The Challenges:  1) It is a cold and foggy Winter morning in the Bay Area.  We’re talking really dense fog!   2) It is a large group and I don’t want all the photos to be posey-posey shots.
Hmmmm…..
The Solution:
1) Give structure to the group shots [...]

Unexpected Places

I’ve been preaching this for a long time, so those of you following my blog will think I sound like a broken record….
Beautiful portrait photography can be found in unexpected places.  It is mostly about lighting, not the location itself.
Today’s photoshoot was at…. you’ll never guess!  Just for fun, I’ll tell you at the end!  [...]

A New Year, A New Life

On the first day of the new decade, I had the privilege of shooting two people who are very much in love.
Masako and Pavan currently reside in London.  Soon they will be returning to the country where they first met, Japan.  They were only here for a short visit, so we squeezed in a photoshoot [...]

The City I Love

It was so awesome to go back to my old stomping grounds in San Francisco.  Oh how I miss that city!
Today’s photoshoot was of Lisa, Danny and Sophie (21 months) who share my love for SF.  This location was so cool — it had hills, a small park, alleyways, gorgeous architecture and great views.
San Francisco [...]
